Augustus Short was the first Anglican Bishop of Adelaide. He arrived in South Australia in 1847, having been consecrated in Westminster Abbey. He was a capable administrator and a good businessman, doing his best to meet the needs of Aborigines and bush communities, and was instrumental in starting the building of Adelaide Cathedral.
